Don brought us his 2024 Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme Recon wanting a new lift kit, wheels and tires. Before we picked a single part, we talked through what he wanted from the Jeep and how he planned to use it, and that conversation pointed us to a 2.5-inch MetalCloak Game-Changer system paired with MetalCloak’s RockSport Silver shocks.
Don also opted to replace his front driveshaft with a custom shaft from Tom Wood’s, then finished it off with Method 701 Bead Grip wheels in matte black and 37x12.50R17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T tires. Now Don’s Jeep is ready for whatever the trail throws at him. As we always say, you can’t understand how much a MetalCloak lift articulates until you experience it for yourself.

The work
MetalCloak 2.5-inch Game-Changer
The Game-Changer system is built around articulation, not just height. The kit goes in as a system, with dual rate coil springs, arms and hardware designed to work together, so the axles keep working and the tires stay planted when the trail gets uneven.
RockSport Silver shocks
These are similar to the other popular silver shocks on the market, with two differences that matter on a MetalCloak lift. They have added length to allow for the extra flex the system provides, and they are custom tuned to work with the dual rate springs that come in the kit.
Custom Tom Wood’s front driveshaft
Whenever an install includes driveshaft work, we use custom shafts built by Tom Wood’s in Utah. We measure after the lift is installed and order the shaft to that measurement, so it truly fits this specific Jeep. It adds a few days to the install, but the performance and results are worth the extra wait.
Method 701 Bead Grip in matte black
Method’s 701 Bead Grip wheels in matte black, a clean, strong wheel that suits the Xtreme Recon’s look and holds the bead better when tire pressure comes down on the trail.
37x12.50R17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T
The Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T in a 37-inch size gives Don more ground clearance and a tire that works on the drive to the trailhead as well as on the rocks.

Great job repairing my rear tire mount.

They installed a leveling kit, control arms, rear shocks, dual exhaust system, and a trailer receiver along with including the complementary inspection at 500 miles to make sure everything was still tight.
I had some Rubicon takeoff springs installed on my Wrangler JL Sport 2 door. It was awesome to watch Zach work. He took time to torque everything properly and still completed the job in a very timely fashion. It was a great experience!
