Gravel, dawn-hour deer and the occasional stuck moment in the hills are all part of owning a truck here. The right bumper handles each one.
Pavement ends quickly east and north of town
Drive a few section lines out of Windsor into Weld County and the asphalt gives way. Weld keeps up roughly 2,080 gravel miles and only about 780 paved ones, and Larimer County adds more than 400 miles of non-paved roads of its own. Loose aggregate gets flung by every passing truck, and the lower valance on a modern pickup is usually painted plastic that chips, cracks and scuffs long before anything structural takes a hit.
A steel or aluminum front bumper will not stop every stone, but it moves the most exposed surface to a powder-coated material that shrugs off chips and can be touched up. Pair it with good mud flaps, and your grille and radiator stay better protected on those washboard stretches.
Deer do not read the road signs
In 2025, animals were blamed for upward of 3,600 Colorado crashes, and statewide roadkill reports counted over 4,700 deer. The worst stretch of the year runs from October into December. Farm roads and river corridors around northern Colorado are the kind of places deer cross at first and last light, often right when you are headed out early or driving home.
Steel cannot make hitting a deer harmless, and slowing down in low light does more than any part we sell. What good front armor can do is keep a lower-speed hit from turning a headlight, grille and cooling stack into one expensive repair. We look at mounting strength, how the bumper ties into the frame, and whether it keeps your factory fog lights or adds a spot for better ones.
Rated points before you head to Buckhorn
Windsor is roughly 43 minutes from Masonville, the jumping-off point for Buckhorn Road and Moody Hill. Moody Hill is rocky and steep, and it closes from December 1 until mid-June; Buckhorn itself is best driven in 4WD or AWD when wet. If a friend needs to pull you out up there, factory tie-down loops are not the place to hook a strap. A proper bumper gives you rated shackle points tied into the frame, which is where recovery load belongs.

Is a steel bumper overkill on a truck I drive every day?
Not necessarily. The added weight is real and can nudge fuel economy and front ride height, so we look at lighter designs and, where it helps, spring or leveling adjustments. If your week includes gravel roads and early-morning drives, the protection is often a fair trade. If it does not, we will say so.
Should I buy a winch-ready bumper if I have no winch yet?
If a winch is anywhere in your future, yes. Buying the cradle now avoids replacing the bumper later. The winch, fairlead and wiring can be added in a separate visit whenever you are ready.
Will an aftermarket bumper work with parking sensors or adaptive cruise?
Many current designs include provisions for factory sensors and radar modules, but support varies by bumper and by vehicle. We confirm what your trim has and whether a given bumper retains it before you order, and we will tell you about any function you would give up.

Great job repairing my rear tire mount.
10/10 experience with Zach at off-camber. I brought in 3rd party front and back bumpers for my Sequioa, and both bumpers had some issues that required him doing a lot of extra work that wasn’t anticipated.
