Mulberry, I-25, Crossroads — done
From Old Town, take Mulberry Street (Colorado 14) east to I-25 and ride the interstate south about ten miles to the Crossroads Boulevard exit. The shop is a mile or so east of the interstate at 7352 Greenridge Road, near The Ranch. It works out to around sixteen miles, and in normal traffic most people make it in 20 to 30 minutes. From south Fort Collins or the Harmony Road side of town, it is quicker still.
If you commute south on I-25 anyway, the shop is an easy stop on the way — drop the rig in the morning and grab it on a later trip.
Poudre Canyon, Rist Canyon, and Red Feather
No other city in our service area is this close to real mountain dirt. Colorado 14 leaves town and climbs into the Poudre, Rist Canyon Road cuts west from Laporte toward Stove Prairie, and US-287 north to Livermore opens up the Red Feather Lakes country. Much of it runs through the Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Roosevelt National Forest, and a lot of it still shows the 2020 Cameron Peak Fire — the largest wildfire in Colorado history — which means downed timber, washouts, and sections that change from one season to the next.
Old Flowers Road
A scenic forest road from Stove Prairie toward Pingree Park, climbing from about 7,400 to 8,600 feet past old homesteads. Easy enough for a first trip in a mildly built 4x4, and a favorite fall-color drive. Gates close with the snow and reopen in early summer.
Kelly Flats
About 25 miles up the Poudre from US-287, and a completely different animal. With obstacles nicknamed The Chutes and Heart Attack Hill, it is rated difficult and meant for high-clearance 4WD and experienced drivers. It is closed from late November to mid-May.
Red Feather Lakes
Past Livermore, Red Feather Lakes Road leads to Deadman Road and a large network of forest routes — more than a hundred miles of OHV roads in the area. Deadman Road itself is easy and closes December through mid-June.
What a Poudre rig actually needs
A truck that tackles Old Flowers on a Saturday and a truck that is aiming at Kelly Flats are two very different builds, and we will ask which one you are before we recommend a single part. For most Fort Collins customers, it comes down to clearance, protection, and being able to get yourself unstuck an hour from cell service.

Enough height and travel to put tires where you want them on rock steps, without turning the drive home on Colorado 14 into a chore.

The underside takes the hits on ledgy canyon roads. Plates over the oil pan, transmission, and transfer case are cheap insurance.

Fort Collins FAQ
Do I need an OHV permit for Old Flowers or Kelly Flats in a plated truck?
On the Forest Service Motor Vehicle Use Map, “roads” carry three-digit numbers and “trails” carry four or more. A street-legal, plated vehicle does not need a Colorado OHV permit on routes classified as roads, but does need one on designated OHV trails. Old Flowers (152) and Kelly Flats (168) are numbered as roads — still, check the current map before you go, because designations can change.
Is Kelly Flats too much for a stock truck?
Usually, yes. It is rated difficult, with steep rocky climbs that call for high clearance, low range, and an experienced driver. Start with easier forest roads like Old Flowers and build up the rig and your skills from there.
Why drive to Windsor instead of staying in Fort Collins?
Off-road and 4x4 work is our specialty, and we build for the same canyons you drive. The trip is about 20 to 30 minutes down I-25, and appointments mean your rig gets our full attention once it is here.
Can you get my rig ready before the high-country roads open?
Yes — and it is smart to plan ahead. Many Poudre-area forest roads open in mid-May to mid-June, so booking your build in early spring gets you on the trail the first weekend the gates swing open.

I had some Rubicon takeoff springs installed on my Wrangler JL Sport 2 door. It was awesome to watch Zach work. He took time to torque everything properly and still completed the job in a very timely fashion. It was a great experience!
