A 4x4 shop on Loveland’s side of I-25
We are just east of The Ranch, off the same I-25 exit. For Loveland drivers heading up the Big Thompson or out Buckhorn Road, we are the last stop that matters.
Eisenhower east, one exit north
From downtown Loveland, head east on Eisenhower Boulevard (US-34) toward Centerra and I-25, go north one exit to Crossroads Boulevard, and turn east. The shop is just past The Ranch Events Complex and Blue Arena — the same exit you already take for an Eagles game or the county fair. It is about eight and a half miles and usually 15 to 20 minutes.
From the east side of town near Centerra, it is barely more than the hop up the interstate — an easy place to leave the rig on a weekday and get on with your day.
Two canyons and a pass, all close
Loveland is the natural jumping-off point for two of the best backroad areas in Larimer County. West on US-34, the Big Thompson Canyon winds up to Drake and Estes Park. That road was torn apart by the floods of 1976 and 2013 and rebuilt over two years before reopening for good in May 2018; today it is the smooth, paved approach to the Glen Haven and Estes-area forest roads. North through Masonville, Buckhorn Road opens up a very different kind of drive.
Buckhorn Road & Pennock Pass
About 25 minutes from Loveland to Masonville, then 28 miles of gravel-turned-dirt climbing to 9,163 feet at Pennock Pass, with grades up to nine percent and switchbacks near the top. Fine for most vehicles when dry, but 4WD is the call when it is wet — and it is not plowed in winter.
Moody Hill
Just off Buckhorn Road, a rocky forest road with steep climbs where lockers help. It is rated moderate and closes from December 1 to mid-June.
Johnny Park & Pole Hill
Two forest roads east of Estes Park off US-36. Johnny Park drops down a rough, rocky descent over about five and a half miles; Pole Hill starts on private land and has very limited trailer parking, so it is better driven than trailered to. Johnny Park is typically open mid-June through November; check current Forest Service conditions for both before you go.
Canyon nights and early mornings
Canyon driving means dark curves, deer and elk on the shoulder, and long gravel climbs. In 2025, wild animals were the main cause of more than 3,600 crashes in Colorado, with the worst of it October through December — right when hunters and leaf-peepers fill the canyons. That is a good reason to take lighting and a solid front bumper seriously on any rig that drives the canyons after dark.

How many auxiliary lights can I run on the road in Colorado?
Colorado limits how many auxiliary lamps can be on the front of a vehicle and lit at once. The statute allows up to two each of spot, fog, auxiliary passing, and auxiliary driving lamps (C.R.S. 42-4-212), and when any front lamp is brighter than 300 candlepower, no more than four can be lit at the same time on a highway (C.R.S. 42-4-219). Off-road light bars should be switched off on public roads. We wire lights so that is easy to do.
Can I take a trail rig up Devil’s Backbone?
No — Devil’s Backbone Open Space is managed for hiking, running, horseback riding, and mountain biking. It is not a place to drive. For Loveland drivers, the closest real backroads are out Buckhorn Road through Masonville and the Estes-area forest roads up the Big Thompson.
Is Buckhorn Road okay for a stock SUV?
In dry summer conditions, most vehicles can drive Buckhorn to Pennock Pass carefully. When it is wet, or if you plan to explore side roads like Moody Hill, you want 4WD, all-terrain tires, and some clearance.
Do you work on weekends before a trip?
We are open Monday through Friday, 9:00 to 4:00, with early drop-off and late pickup, and special requests can be discussed. Book a weekday slot ahead of your weekend in the canyon and your rig will be ready to go.

Great job repairing my rear tire mount.

I had a great experience at Off Camber 4x4 as Zach is a true professional and pleasure to work with. He went above and beyond getting all hardware snugged up even though it wasn’t in the estimate - with being a late request made when I dropped off the truck. Additionally, Off Camber’s shop not only provided the most reasonable price out of the four estimates I received, they were the ONLY shop that recommended a follow up inspection for the type of service I had done. They installed a leveling kit, control arms, rear shocks, dual exhaust system, and a trailer receiver along with including the complementary inspection at 500 miles to make sure everything was still tight.
